LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

 

 

The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine is the oldest and the greatest institution of higher agronomical education in Romania. It is currently composed of six faculties: the Faculty of Agronomy, the Faculty of Horticulture, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Complaint of the Grounds and Environmental Engineering. Each one of these faculties delivers of B.Sc, M.Sc and the doctorates.

The Faculty of Horticulture is the oldest one in Romania (1948) and forms engineers in Arboriculture, Floriculture, Fruit Tree Growing, Vegetables Growing and Wine growing and making.

In 1998, was founded the Department of Landscape Architecture, in the frame of the Horticulture Faculty. The main objective of the Landscape Architecture Department is conservation and development of landscape and associated values for the benefit of next generations. It has 40 free-tax students and 50 paying taxes students, per year. Education profile is a complete one focusing on art, sciences, techniques and management. The curricula is based on ECLAS guidelines.

The B.Sc. level is a 4 years (8 semesters, 240 ECTS) education having a completely independent curriculum from the Horticulture Department. Students are graduating with the Landscape Engineer Diploma

A M.Sc. program in Planting Design will stat in 2009-2010. The program is structured on 2 years (4 semesters, 120 ECTS). Another M.Sc. program in Landscape Architecture is planned for 2010 in partnership with Perugia University, Italy

At the moment there are 11 professors in the Landscape Architecture Department, manly Architects and Landscape Engineers, plus other staff members from neighboring disciplines.

Main research and study directions of the faculty supporting the planned activities of the network:

- Analysis: changes of city, suburb and agglomeration

- Development of greenway systems, green belts

- Development of post-industrial landscape
- Analytical methodology – land use conflicts of rural landscape

- Historical parks and gardens and restoration

- Management and conservation of natural heritage

 

Landscape Architecture Department is member of ECLAS and is involved in Erasmus and Socrates programs as well as Le:Notre program.
